A painted figure sits on the rim of a turquoise plate, beside a brown flower-shaped dish. The paint is brushed over the glaze in thin layers.
Jordan Pittman paints each figure by hand and fires the plate once.
Exclusive Jordan's abstract glazes start with the colour of a single flower or a field at dusk, then move toward something looser. She paints on glazed stoneware and tiles, often in series of three to five. Her pieces have been shown in Chicago, Tallinn and Almaty, and she taught ceramic decoration at a regional arts college for twelve years.
A group exhibition of ceramics at Focus Gallery in Almaty. The opening night is on 6 November at 18:00, and everyone is welcome to attend.
A solo exhibition by Adam Schwartz. His large painted dishes and bowls show figures that float, climb and tangle in half-remembered landscapes.
Watch the potters at work in the Almaty studio and see new pieces up close.
