Art Description

Open Arms is a sculpture in white stoneware, left unglazed so that the bare clay carries the whole surface. Its fine grain and soft, matte tone give the open, upward pose a quiet presence.

Tomas built the piece by hand in his Almaty studio, shaping the figure in sections and joining them while the clay is still soft. Most of his pieces are fired in the wood kiln behind his studio near Kecskemet, Hungary, and the wood firing leaves the unglazed surface with natural, uneven tones.

Every work from Focus Gallery comes with a certificate of authenticity. Open Arms is packed in a crate before it ships, and delivery is insured worldwide.
