Tomas trained as a sculptor in Budapest and has worked in clay since 2004. His hand-built figures mix folk myth with a sharp modern edge, and he fires most pieces in a wood kiln behind his studio near Kecskemet, Hungary. He divides his year between Hungary and Almaty, where he runs a summer workshop for ceramists.
Tomas spends part of each summer teaching his workshop in Almaty, where students build figures from the same clay he uses. His 2025 show Clay Memory, made with Sasha Grigoryan, brought his hand-built figures and her relief plaques into one room.
A group exhibition of ceramics at Focus Gallery in Almaty. The opening night is on 6 November at 18:00, and everyone is welcome to attend.
A solo exhibition by Adam Schwartz. His large painted dishes and bowls show figures that float, climb and tangle in half-remembered landscapes.
Watch the potters at work in the Almaty studio and see new pieces up close.
