Sasha works in stoneware and porcelain, building each plate and bowl by hand before the first glaze test. Her relief pieces grow out of the steppe flowers and birds she grew up around in Kazakhstan. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions in Almaty, Bishkek and Tbilisi and is held in several private collections in Europe.
Sasha keeps a sketchbook of plants and birds from the steppe, and many of her plaques begin as one drawing in it. She tests every glaze on a small tile before it goes on a full piece, so the colour on the finished work matches what she planned.
A group exhibition of ceramics at Focus Gallery in Almaty. The opening night is on 6 November at 18:00, and everyone is welcome to attend.
A solo exhibition by Adam Schwartz. His large painted dishes and bowls show figures that float, climb and tangle in half-remembered landscapes.
Watch the potters at work in the Almaty studio and see new pieces up close.
